Tickfaw State Park Canoe Trip | 5/13/2006, back
On Saturday, May 13th, McMains Childrens Developmental Center hosted our seventh annual Canoeing Adventure at Tickfaw State Park. Children, parents, therapists, and volunteers enjoyed a day of canoeing, exploring accessible nature trails, visiting the Nature Center, and playing on the wheelchair accessible water playground. We were fortunate once again to have volunteers from the Department of Environmental Quality and BASF Corporation in conjunction with the United Way day of Caring event.
About 140 children, parents and volunteers enjoyed a day of canoeing and seeing some of Louisianas beautiful scenery and wildlife. Our therapists volunteered to help with any modifications the children needed to sit in the canoes. Afterwards, participants enjoyed some delicious jambalaya cooked by DEQs Chris Mayeaux.
We are so grateful to the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism and the staff at Tickfaw State Park for hosting this outdoor event. They also provided the canoes free of charge and waived the entrance fees for everyone participating.
