McMains Childrens Developmental Center Celebrates 50 years of Developing Dreams | 10/19/2004, back

On Thursday, September 23 the McMains Children's Developmental Center hosted a 50th Anniversary Breakfast at Boudreaux’s. The theme of the breakfast, “Developing Dreams,” was expressed through a video about a 10-year-old boy named Julian who has cerebral palsy, and is a client of the Center. Dreams of other children from the Center, along with their pictures were displayed at all of the tables.

Skip Bertman was the speaker for the breakfast, and John Pastorek of Channel 2 served as the Master of Ceremonies. Kellee Hennessy of Channel 9 and President of the board of directors for the Center, also spoke at the breakfast. Rabbi Barry Weinstein gave the opening blessing and 4-year-old Nolan Screen, a client of the Center, led the Pledge of Allegiance.

The purpose of the breakfast was to celebrate 50 years of providing therapy to children with disabilities, to educate people about the history and mission of the Center, and to raise crucial funds. By all accounts, the event was a tremendous success.

Sponsors for the event included, The Huey and Angelina Wilson Foundation; Albemarle Corporation; Angelo’s Lawn-Scape of Baton Rouge; David and Madeline Breidenbach; Diversified Health Strategies; Downtown Kiwanis Club; GMFS, LLC; Louisiana Lottery Corporation; Rickey and Ann Major; The Mall at Cortana; Smith Barney; and Taylor, Porter, Brooks & Phillips, LLP.
