McMains Children's Developmental Center held its 11th annual canoe trip on May 1 at Tickfaw State Park. This year the Center partnered with four LSU mechanical engineering students who designed and built a special chair made to fit into a standard canoe. The engineering students, Paul Adkins, Troy Blanchard, Henry Hardy and Patrick McCarthy, worked with a donated budget of $500 and constructed the chair with an adjustable back and seat for more customized seating for the children.

The children and their families enjoyed a jambalaya lunch and fun activities such as face-painting, coloring, and spin art.

The McMains CDC would like to thank Tickfaw State Park, Green Supply Company, BASF, DEQ and the Albemarle Foundation and all the volunteers who came out to make sure that the kids and families had fun on their trip to Tickfaw.
